Bedlington Terriers should be bought from responsible breeders. A sense of responsibility is the major tool for any breeder who cares for the betterment of the breed and wants to gain a good reputation. He is aware that his action in breeding has a far-reaching impact and selling each puppy means placing it in a suitable loving home. All breeding stock should be of good health and sound temperament. The dogs bred must be free of genetically inheritable diseases and conditions, and internal and external parasites. Testing for possible genetic diseases should always be done prior to the breeding period.
A good breeder feels responsible to know as much as possible about the genetic background of his breeding stock and about the Bedlington Terrier breed in general. Not every healthy Bedlington Terrier should be bred. Only suitable mating partners ought to be selected in order to help enhance the desirable features in the breed line. Each stud service should be initiated with a written stud contract.
Look for breeders who show their kennels and their dogs willingly. The registration papers and the puppy's pedigree should be provided as well. A responsible breeder wants to keep track of the pups from the litter he produced.
